Dreaming of learning to kitesurf but not sure what to expect? A kitesurfing course in
Fuerteventura is an unforgettable experience – provided the conditions and coaching are right. At Surfers Island, we prioritize stress-free learning, state-of-the-art equipment, and personalized attention.

Here we show you step by step how your perfect kitesurfing day in the famous Sotavento Lagoon with us works.

1.) Relaxed Booking & Free Hotel Transfer

Your holiday should be stress-free from the very first minute. You can easily request your kitesurfing course via our contact form or write to us directly via WhatsApp at +34 618 200 710. We are at the station daily from 11 am to 5 pm, but usually answer flexibly outside these hours. On the day of your course, you have a choice: come to our station on your own or use our convenient pick-up service. We will gladly pick you up directly at your hotel in Esquinzo, or Morro Jable.

2.) Your Packing List: What to Bring to the Kite Spot

Since we teach in a beautiful nature reserve, there are no kiosks or supermarkets directly at the spot. That is why proper preparation is important:

- The Sunscreen Trick (for face, hands & feet only!): Be sure to apply sunscreen to the tops of your feet and hands at the hotel! This allows the cream to absorb during the drive, so you won‘t slip on the kiteboard or the bar later.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT apply sunscreen to your body: Please do not apply sunscreen to your body before the course. We wear high-quality full-body wetsuits during the entire course. Even though the water is pleasant all year round – after three hours in the water, you will get cold otherwise. In addition, the wetsuit provides perfect UV protection and prevents small scratches. However, if your skin is freshly creamed, it is extremely difficult to get into the tight-fitting suit.

- Optimal Face Protection: The face must be extremely well protected. We and our
instructors swear by physical protection, like the waterproof sunstick from EQ Love
(you can also buy this directly from us at the station). It doesn‘t run into your eyes and
you can see exactly where the protection is still intact.

- The Right Sunglasses: If you are sensitive to the sun, bring sunglasses with a strap (we often have straps in the station, just ask!). Tip: Don‘t take your most expensive glasses and preferably choose non-polarized lenses – with normal lenses you can read the water surface and small waves much better while kiting.

- Clothing & Co.: Put your bikini or swim trunks on under your clothes at the hotel. Pack a towel and dry clothes for the return trip.

- Enough Water & Snacks: This is the most important thing! Be sure to bring enough drinking water and a small snack (e.g., bananas or bars). Kitesurfing is a very intensive sport – our guests are regularly exhausted and hungry after the course, but incredibly happy!

3.) Equipment Check & Our Premium Walkie-Talkie Coaching

Arriving at our station, we equip you with high-quality gear: wetsuit, harness, and impact vest. The absolute highlight of our kite school, however, are our special helmets (one-size, which have fit everyone perfectly so far) with an integrated radio system. We teach almost exclusively with this walkie-talkie setup. Your kite instructor is right in your ear during the entire course. You are never alone on the water and don‘t have to worry about doing something wrong. The instructor doesn‘t have to scream across half the lagoon but can give you valuable tips exactly at the moment you are doing the exercise. This saves our instructors‘ voices and guarantees you a safe, exclusive, and extremely steep learning curve.

4.) Action in the Sotavento Lagoon

If you are a complete beginner, we start with a short, safe introduction on the simulator
before heading to the water. If you already have experience, our instructors pack the
appropriate equipment (kite size, type, and board) and we all drive together directly to the spot in the lagoon.

In the lagoon, each kite school has its own fixed training area, so we don‘t get in each others way. Before we start, we always do a detailed Safety Briefing – safety is our top priority, regardless of your level. Then the instructors spread out and the lesson begins. To ensure you really get the most out of your day, we guarantee: The kite is flying for at least 3 hours for the session to fully count. If the group is super motivated, the wind was weak at the beginning, or the instructor feels that the student will have that magical “click“ moment in 15 minutes, we are happy to add a little extra time.

5.) Quality over Quantity: Why Our Instructors are Always Motivated

As a rule, we plan only one course per day for our kite instructors (on days with extremely good tide levels in the lagoon, a maximum of two). Why? Because we want to create a perfect learning atmosphere. Our instructors are not under time pressure, remain fresh and highly motivated throughout the season, and have enough time after the session on the water to debrief you in peace.

6.) Return Trip & Official IKO Certification

After an intensive day on the water, we pack up together. We take guests who have booked for several days straight back to the hotel – and next time we simply pick you up again with the equipment already packed. On your last day of the course, we drive back to the station together to settle the bill before finally heading back to the hotel. A true all-round service!

By the way: At the end of your course, we can officially sign off on your riding skills. As a recognized school, we work with the standards of the International Kiteboarding
Organization (IKO), whose licenses serve as a worldwide certificate of competence. With this level confirmation, you can easily rent equipment anywhere in the world in the future or seamlessly continue your course.
